Introduction Holidays for Seniors

Our travel offers can be individually arranged for travellers with high demands in the second half of their lives, for people who enjoy life and who are open to the world. Many people can only allow themselves to dive into foreign cultures as soon as their lives are not dominated anymore by their everyday working rountine. Afterwards, they are free to get to know everything that couldn’t find any space before. We concentrate on individual cultural journeys, but we can also organize travel programmes for groups. Other points of interest are language courses, round trips, and also music, dance and rhythm. We were really surprised about the enthusiasm concerning our offers of the growing number of senior travellers aged between 50 and 80 years who have travelled with us during the recent years.

We believe that you would like to travel independently, thus we only make proposals for the planning and preparation of your journey when you wish us to do so. The planning phase and the preparation phase are important parts of our work and they need quite a bit of space. You will find more information on our consulting when you click Consultation (words that are written in red indicate pages with more detailed information.)

Our exemplary travel programme wants to give you a first impression and it is designed for a period of three weeks. Of course, we can also plan shorter or longer journeys for you. All the contents of the journey can be varied according to your personal preferences. If you, for example, prefer a different hotel than the one indicated, it is no problem to change; if you would like to have a chauffeur for the hired car in Cuba, we will get one for you.

In the recents years, more and more people between 50 and 75 used our consulting service and more and more senior people travelled with us. It became quite evident that there is not only interest in round trips and cultural events, but there is also a demand for high quality dance courses and offers for active holidays. We offer the necessary infrastructure and we enjoy to advise open-mided senior people who enjoy travelling.

We do not intend to talk a lot about Cuba. Any good guidebook can do that. We have organised individual travel programmes for this very special Caribbean island since 1996 and we supervise our partners there regularly. The teachers of our courses have been selected personally, the hotels chosen by us were also selected personally in order to make sure that they keep satisfying our quality standards. We have been knowing the landlords of the private accomodations personally for years now, so can feel safe and well looked-after there.

If you have had a look at our Cuba pages already, you might have realized that our offers are manifold and diverse. This special offer for you does even outclass the given programmes. The travel example starts from the assumption that you arrive in Havana on a Thursday. Of course, you can also arrive any other day. Then, the individual parts of the programme have to be displaced correspondingly. Your holidays in Cuba could look like this:

1st day (Thursday)
Arrival at the international airport in Havanna. Transfer to the ****Hotel “Telegrafo” in the city centre, about 300m distance from the Capitolio and 500m from the Malecon. The hotel was newly built and it adjusts well to the old part of town. Being a Cuban hotel, it can be considered an architectonic prestige object.

2nd day (Friday)
Time for strolling around and for acclimatization

3rd day (Saturday)
You will be picked up by from the hotel by our tour guide at 9.30 am and you will discover a lot that day. There will be a round tour of about 90 minutes in the old part of Havana, where your hotel is located and where you have probably had a walk around the day before. Afterwards you will take a horse carriage for an hour from which you can see even more of the city centre of Havana. After having lunch in a typical Cuban private restaurant (paladar), an American vintage car will take you to the modern part of the centre of Havana for about two hours. You will return to the hotel around 4pm. This city tour is organised exclusively for you. All services, as well as a translator for people who do not speak Spanish, and lunch are included in the total price of the journey.

4th day (Sunday)
Time at your free disposal

5th - 9th day (Monday to Friday)
You have the opportunity to have take private percussion lessons in the morning or to participate in the salsa classes in the afternoons from 3-5 pm. You will dance salsa with an individual Cuban dance partner.

You will also visit a Cuban dance event that week. You can chose between the world-famous Tropicana show and the Club Parisienne.

The best way to get an impression of the real life in Cuba is the neighbourhood project San Isidro. This programme takes about three hours and it cannot be found in any travel guide and it will give you an insight into the Cuban everyday life. Please click here for more detailed information.

10th day (Saturday)
We will provide you with a hired car in which you start a round trip through the Cuban West. Drive to the Hotel Moka, which is located in an ecological reservat.

11th - 13th day (Sunday to Tuesday
Enjoy Moka and its surroundings

14th day (Wednesday)
Drive to Pinar del Rio to the Hotel Jazmines. There, you have a view over the whole valley of Vinales.

15th-18th (Thursday to Sunday)
Enjoy the province of Pinar del Rio. Starting from the hotel, you can go on day excursions walking or by car. You are in the middle of the tabacco growing area of Cuba. The best cigarres in the world are produced here.

18th day (Sunday)
Return trip to Havana and arrival at the Casa particular of Gisela. You will spend the last days of your journey with friendly people, whose private accomodation is very comfortable.

19th day (Monday)
At your free disposal

20th day (Tuesday)
Get an insight into the Cuban religion, the Santería, when visiting a Santera (female priest), who explains the Afro Cuban religion Yoruba and its religious significance and deities (orixas). You will be shown some religious rituals by the santera. Afterwards, you can participate in a spiritual session, which will be given individually by a Sacerdote Mayor (Babalao). He talks with you about your past and present and he gives you advice for your future.

21st day (Wednesday)
Time to stroll around and to do everything that still has to be done.

22nd day (Thursday)
Transfer to Havana international airport. Departure back home or to other destinations.

This is what our guests say

Heidemarie W. about a percussion course:

With mixed feelings, because we are quite a bit older than 20 and quite unsuspecting, we approach the house “de nuestro profesor” Ruy Lopez. And we don’t know yet that we will get private lessons by one of the star percussionists of the “Buena Vista Social Clubs”. The friendly atmosphere is a nice surprise as well as the kind, patient, methodically sensitive way of teaching of our gifted teacher with the little plaits. 2 hours daily, five days a week is quite exhausting (for the concentration and the hands), but in the end we are so enthusiastic about the proficient, thourough and many-sided classes that we also organise some “jam sessions” the three of us. My husband immediately buys a portable tumbadora (conga) in Havana.

P.S. No previous knowledge requiered, pero un poquito español y mucho entusiasmo.

And about Salsa:

We had booked dance classes in Habana with Danza y Movimiento: five classes, 2 hours daily as a couple, in order to learn the basic steps of salsa, mambo and merengue “the right way” and because we wanted to learn more steps. The classes took place in a training hall, in a typical (not renovated) Habana Vieja building. This was very attractive to us, because in this way we had direct contact with the lovely Habañeros. Alex, our dance teacher, is one of them; an excellently trained dance professional, young, very friendly and very exigent regarding the steps and movements. Systematically (with warm-up exercises) he taught us the figures, he corrected us and he repeated everything. His classes are uncomparable (I am thinking about the usual courses for tourists). We got a “dance address” in Santiago from Danza y Movimiento for next year. We are already curious about this next trip. We have become Cuba fans because of the attractive aspects of the island and the musicality of the people there and their enthusiasm for dancing: “Que linda es Cuba!”
