Salsa is a life-style. Hardly any other country makes you feel this way of life as intensely as Cuba. A language should be learned in a country where it is spoken and a dance like Salsa should be practised in its native country. Salsa itself is a universal language that does not need any words and that does not know any frontiers. People all over the world dance Salsa nowadays, and it is a beautiful form of communication. Salsa develops from the contact with the dance partner. And if you have been taught Salsa as a mere sequence of technical steps, you will now experience that in Cuba dancing is something completely different (which does not mean that a good technique is unnecessary).

Our classes want to teach technique as well as "movimiento". This refers to the separate movement of different parts of the body like shoulders or hips. This separation is a significant aspect of many dances. There is no imprivisation in Salsa without separate body movements. When you watch Cubans dance, you will notice that, based on the step sequences, there are many spontaneous digressions which spice the performance. This part is difficult to learn for people who have not grown up in the Caribbean. But pracising these movements make the body smoother and even a simple basic step becomes more elegant. By the way: you can book additional "movimiento" classes apart from the Salsa course.




		Salsa In Havana

When you arrive in Cuba, you will meet plenty of people on the streets who pretend to be Salsa teachers with lots of experience. You will be offered classes for as little as 5 US$. Every hotel offers Salsa courses on a level of animation. Accordingly, almost every travel organizer includes "Salsa" in the programme. We have had quite a hard time to find good Salsa teachers. We expect from a teacher that he or she teaches on a good or very good technical level, that a Non-Cuban understands the Salsa material taught and - of course- that he or she is reliable and punctual. We would love our teachers to be able to speak English, but maybe that would be a tall order. Besides, it is not really necessary. Our experience of the last 9 years showed that the non-verbal communication in Cuba is excellent.

The classes usually take place in the afternoon in a cultural centre in the centre of Havana. Every participant dances with a male or female Cuban dance partner. This means 2 hours (120 min.) of very intense dancing! The courses take place all year Monday to Friday and you can start any time you wish after having made your application. Thus, usually the classes are taught in small groups of 3-6 persons. When travelling on your own, you will probably meet other people in class you might want to join when, for example, going out at night.




		Salsa In Havana

By practising with your individual dance partner you can make a great progress on every level, being a beginner or a professional dancer. Don't worry if you are a beginner: The Cubans are happy about any European travelling to their country in order to learn Salsa. And they are very patient!

If you already have some basic knowledge, if you have danced for years already, or if you have even given classes yourself, then you will receive new inspiration during the individual class.

There are not only the individual dance partners, of course, but first and foremost Caruca. Caruca Caridad Rodriguez is probably the most renowned dancer and dance teacher in Cuba. Please feel free to ask anybody in the streets of Cuba about Caruca! She is the choreographer and trainer of the most famous Cuban show acts, like for example the Cuban television ballet and the world famous Tropicana show. Her team is highly motivated, and even if Caruca herself should be absent at some stage, the top quality classes are guaranteed.

Courses with accommodation in Havana

We selected the best hotels and private accommodations we could find in Cuba for you. The cost effectiveness in Cuba is not very good, and travellers get more for their money in other countries of the world. But Cuba is Cuba and in the end you support a country with your money in which the population's standard of living is better than in any other Latin American or Caribbean nation. We design travel packages in cooperation with local partners which offer the optimum cost effectiveness possible in Cuba. 		Casa Particular In Havana

If you don't like to stay in a hotel, you will feel comfortable in one of our Private accommodations (Casas Particulares). We work with legal landlords who we have known for years now. Thus, you avoid trouble when you arrive in Cuba.

All the apartments offered are clean and safe. The landlords are friendly and helpful. The guests are independent but they get help when needed. The rooms include a bath (sometimes shared with other rooms), often with air condition and sometimes with a safe.

We mainly offer private accommodation near Capitolio or in Vedado, a part of Havana belonging to the central parts of town. There are hotels close to the houses where you can usually use the pool and get refreshments even if you don't stay at the hotel.

Playas del Este Der Strand

We recommend the Aparthotel **Las Terrazas, located at 20km east of Havana. The hotel is plain. The apartment consists of a living room with kitchen and a bedroom. There are apartments with two or three bedrooms for families. There is a pool, a restaurant and a supermarket very close. The masseur at the hotel is very good - just try it! We recommend to book a hired car for travelling to the course location. The prices for a taxi to Havana range from 20-25 CUC.

		Apartment Independent accommodation

If you would like to live in Havana Vieja, you will love our Apartments. They are located close to the Casa de la Musica Centro Havanna in Galeano. The distance to the sea and to the Capitolio is 300m. An excellent downtown location, which is still relatively quiet although located in the city centre, because the houses on the opposite side are not very high.

Equipment: All apartments with living room, kitchen and bathroom. TV, air condition, fridge and washing machine available. You can book apartments with one or two bedrooms. Spacious terrace (balcony).

Cubans are not allowed to rent the entire apartment, thus, the owner usually stays in one of the side rooms but is absent as far as possible. You can still ask him if needed and he will make you breakfast...

Information on other apartments of a higher category, for example with your own parking space and pool access in Miramar on request.

We recommend two high quality hotels right in the centre of Havana Vieja (the old part of town). The 4-star-Hotel Telegrafo , which is unspectacular from the outside, but the inner construction is quite convincing. The architecture combines the original construction of the 19th century with modern building standards. The rooms are spacious and comfortabel. You can book one of the nine Junior Suites for an additional charge on request.

Salsa in Santiago de Cuba is quite different from Salsa in Havanna. We are in Santiago, at about 1000 km east of Havana in Oriente, the cradle of the traditional Son.

The teachers in Santiago are also carefully selected and professional, and their repertoire is interesting for beginners as well as for advanced dancers. The structure of class is similar to the courses in Havana: You will dance with an individual male or female Cuban dance partner. Thus, you are part of a group and at the same time you will get a maximum amount of individual impuls in order to learn exactly what you are interested in.

Salsa course without accommodation

It is also possible to book a course in Havana or in Santiago de Cuba without accommodation. The 5-day-course (5 x 120min) with individual male or female Cuban dance partner costs 212 Euro, the 10-day-course (10 x 120min) costs 319 Euro.
